In Buffalo, more than anywhere, there is a growing need for media accountability.

In this space I'll try to add some perspective to the local media scene in Buffalo.

MediaWatch Update
1. ILLUZZILETTER.COM:

Below is an email from a usually-reliable source. Is this true?

The emailer says,

"Joe Illuzzi is at it again----calling local political people asking for $$$$ or he will be shut down---he needs to raise $4,000 in a week or Choice One will shut him down---- Anybody who knows this guy, knows this is a scam to raise his back child support $$----incredible nerve-----"

Actually, Illuzzi has been doing a bit better lately. Not so much personal agenda. Sometimes links to helpful info. He certainly has a strong WORK ETHIC . . but not apparently to earn an honest living . . nor support his only child.

Golly, hope Illuzzi gets all that stuff printed he has documenting how 'DEGENERATE' I am . . . before Choice One joins that long list of Illuzzi-creditors . . . including his only child . . .& shuts him down?!.

Or will Nanula bail him out, as he tried with that never-admitted $100,000 loan to Buffalo Beat?

Have not seen Illuzzi's Niagara County Correspondent (media icon Farina) for a bit. Is Illuzzi too broke to pay him? I still need to talk to Farina's wife to learn her feeling about Tony leaving her for a much younger man (Parenti, you recall, who is no longer Silver's 'upstate rep', working for Pigeon at Dem hdqrters instead, so soon after moving from Pigeon's waterfront condo . . .whic was formerly owned by Nanula, to share a 1BR apt with Farina at 849 Delaware, Unit 401)

2. La ULTIMA HORA:

After further analysis, realized that HORA has the same identical HUNT REALTY full page ad (agent Isabel Barros, who seems no longer to be in Elmwood Stuyvesant Hunt office; lists her phone as 883-2200) in the just published (March 28) issue that was in the January issue. There are 15 houses pictured, plus another 9 listed as "Casa Neuva".

Now that's a glowing testimony to the sales power of HOA ads . . .in all 200(?) papers printed each month, printed with lots of help from unwitting taxpayers . . . & BMHA of course.

Interestingly, there were no HORA's to be seen on Elmwood, (Thur or Sat, Mar 28 & 30) either at HUNT realty or the laundramat near North. All 65 were gone at Frontier Liquor, but 14 of 35 remained at M&T Bank Saturday on Grant Street.

Especially of note . . . . there are TWO BARROS HOUSES STILL LISTED FROM THE JUNE 2001 HORA (82 Shirley & 381 Massachusetts). We',ll let you know when they sell . . .& for how much. Interestingly, no prices are listed.

Blue Dog Lives . . . IN ARTVOICE:

This is the second time in three weeks that there is a full page ad for BUFFALO SPREE in ARTVOICE. The word was, that Blue Dog sold at Artvoice for a song . . .or a few ads, that is. Allegedly little or no cash traded hands between Jamie & Levite-McDuff. Time will tell how many ads a dying dog is worth.

Incidentally, we're told that Blue Dog got its name in a unique way. Then-staff debated, what is a favorite color? And a favorite animal? You guessed it BLUE . . .& DOG!!!
Not too much art there!
Also . . .ARTVOICE (& Beat) had trouble getting into AAN (Assoc of Alternative Newsweeklies; www.aan.org ) because they were both weak on local (political) content. So, three weeks ago the Spree ad in ARTVOICE boasted "LOCAL FLAVOR!" . . .all about local chefs. Who said Blue Dog is dead?! And that dog's death reduced locaL CONTENT?!
Satisfied, AAN?

ATT Press MOVIE GUY is dead!?
ALT Press has finally made it official. Movie guy is gone. And Blue Dog's 'terminal editor' Michael Calleri is now official ALT Movie editor.
Hopefully that means that Callieri is calling off his two lawyers from suing me for questioning whether Movie Guy & Callieri were one and the same? And hopefully Calleri is not taking over Alt Press as one anonymous emailer alleged?!
Never did learn which radio station pays him $75 a week to commentate on film, thanks to me. Maybe ALT beat the radio station's price . . .with their 1 1/2 apges of ads in last issue.
We could not learn whether Movie Guy drowned in the Niagara rapids, where Flora Nerk (PBA Blue Line writer Officer Bill Logal . . .in drag) was last seen?!

Don't tell anybody, but we got problems in Buffalo media.

And soon I won't be around to even watch them. Frank Clark just got a green light from Judge Skretney to prosecute me for any politician he chooses on any false charge he pleases . . .and maybe for alternative papers I criticize as well?! I was nervous aboiut Skretney from the start. Before sentencing Judge Wilbur Trammell, (who I wrote about for years, as it was alleged, "You can't touch Trammell") Skretney showed deep concern whether Wilbur took his pills that morning. I had only ever seen Trammell for several years when he was jogging around Delaware Park looking quite fit. Then Skretney sentenced Wilbur to 45 days in the Federal Country Club Prison once frequented by a famous Parks Commissioner & a $25,000 fine . . for stealing a cool Three million from HUD. But he was disbarred . . at age 70 (?) as his son Mark, who was by his side the whole way, got off without even a slap on the finger.

Incidenatally, Trammell is hiding in plain sight, living in City Center, no mortgage to be found . . as son-business partner Mark has moved from upscale 800 W. Ferry where he rented to upscale LaBrun where he owns. We all know that stealing from HUD & Buffalo's poor is quite lucrative.

American justice. Ya gotta love it. Of course we cannot tolerate old retired social workers stalking Flynn's five kids in South Buffalo by bike, can we? We all know that convicted criminal tamperers never lie . . nor send anonymous emails charging those exposing public misconduct with child molesting . . . or having sex with two adult daughters . . since they have married?!

Looks to me like Clark will be a federal judge any day now. And death row beckons for indiscreet critics.
